Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency

 Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is a rare inherited metabolic disorder caused by low blood levels of alpha-1 antitrypsin (A1AT), according to the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD). It can lead to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with emphysema symptoms, and in some adults, liver damage (cirrhosis) from scar tissue formation.
